A full scale replica of a Boeing 'Stearman' was required for the film. It was built in Sydney under the supervision of Mark McKinley and Peter Owens.

Expert modelmaker Adam Grace made a mould of a real engine and cast it.

The replica aircraft was dismantled and shipped to Alice Springs for the shoot.
